SUNDANCE HOME ADDITION
Project Overview
Project Overview
We would never be able to say too much about how well this project turned out. The house originally had 1845 sq.ft.. We added almost 1000 sq.ft. to the second floor and added another 920 sq.ft. by finishing the basement, for a total of 3700 sq.ft. of living space. Talk about a dream home! The addition was well planned with quality engineering. The interior finishing is stunning and make this home one-of-a-kind. The entire process, from design and selection, demolition and rebuild, and finishing took a total of 10 months. The family now gets to enjoy their home and everyone is ecstatic!
Lake Sundance is the Calgary community that has it all: access to Fish Creek Park; schools from K – 12; easy access to shopping and entertainment, easy access to MacLeod, Deerfoot and Stoney Trails. The community began development in 1982. The location also drew in many professionals who appreciated an easy commute via the main through-ways. Many of the homes have been well taken care of and still contain their original exterior and interior finishes. In recent years we have begun to see home additions and renovations throughout the community with a more modern feel, creating a unique experience where past meets present.
The original house had everything you would expect to see as a result of the 1980s home construction industry in Calgary, specifically… partitioned spaces, multiple levels, floating cabinets, and an abundance of golden-oak finishings… and don’t forget awkwardly placed support columns. In its time it was a picture of modern luxury with hardwood throughout the main level and at least three rooms that you could sit in. All these things would soon become only a memory.
After working abroad and experiencing the world with a young, growing family, it was time to lay some roots. It was back to Calgary for this family of six. The only question was where to plant themselves. They started in a beautiful newer home in Mahogany, but wanted a better location for their family. Could it be possible to have the luxury of a Mahogany home, but in an established community? That was the question that started them on this journey of hope and discovery. When they weren’t able to find a house that they liked at a price that made sense, they decided to focus on the perfect location and bought a house that could be customized into their family dream home.
